Dr. Austin likens his work to that of a medical detective. He examines complex cases, looking for clues to identify the culprit and solve the problem. He enjoys the challenge of piecing together difficult puzzles and delivering solutions. After earning his MD at the Medical College of Georgia in 1976, Dr. Austin continued his education at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, where he completed his Internal Medicine internship, residency and fellowship, finishing in 1981. He has practiced in Infectious Diseases for over 30 years and in 2009 was appointed Director of Infusion Services at Walton Rehabilitation Health System.

In his spare time, Dr. Austin enjoys troubleshooting IT issues and writing computer programs. He also enjoys making improvements to the home that he shares with his lovely wife, Fran. Dr. Austin can always be persuaded to play a round of golf.
